How to Get Your Healthcare Service Recommended by ChatGPT

When buyers ask AI what to pick, the answer is assembled from sources the engine can read. In healthcare, one source towers over the rest.

32.5%
of AI answers to healthcare buying prompts cited Reddit as a source. In 7.5% of sourced answers, Reddit was the first source listed.

Why Reddit decides who gets recommended

Three data points explain the mechanism. First, 40.1% of the sources large language models cite come from Reddit (Semrush, 150K citations). Second, 99% of ChatGPT's Reddit citations point to individual threads, not brand pages (Profound). Third, our own 1,000-run study found that an engine whose index cannot read Reddit cited it exactly 0 times out of 500 answers: access to threads is the whole game, and the big engines (ChatGPT, Google, Perplexity) have that access.

Beyond Reddit, the sources AI leaned on for healthcare were healthline.com (45.0%), nytimes.com (22.5%), youtube.com (20.0%), helpguide.org (17.5%), innerbody.com (17.5%). You cannot buy placement in any of them. You can, however, be genuinely present in the threads.

The playbook

  1. Find the threads buyers already opened. "Best X", "X vs Y", "is X worth it" threads in the communities above. Our free Leads Finder surfaces the five hottest ones for your service.
  2. Answer like an expert, not an advertiser. Solve the question completely, disclose who you are, mention your service once. Threads that rank on Google keep feeding AI answers for months.
  3. Track what AI says about you. Check your brand's AI visibility with our free checker and watch it move as your thread presence grows.
Method note. Our panel measures Perplexity Sonar because it exposes citations natively. For the ChatGPT product itself, third-party studies (Semrush, Profound) point the same direction, and OpenAI licenses Reddit data. We publish the full methodology and re-run the panel monthly.

FAQ

How do I get my service recommended by ChatGPT?

AI assistants build shopping answers from the sources they can read, and Reddit is the heaviest one: 32.5% of AI answers to healthcare buying prompts in our July 2026 panel cited Reddit. The practical path is to be helpfully present in the exact threads AI engines read: answer real buyer questions in the communities listed above, add value first, and mention your service once.

Where does this data come from?

We ran 40 real buying prompts for the healthcare category (best-of, versus, is-it-worth-it, alternatives) through Perplexity Sonar, an AI answer engine with native citations, and counted the cited sources. 40 answers returned sources. We re-run the panel monthly.

Does this apply to ChatGPT itself?

Directionally, yes. ChatGPT has a licensing deal with Reddit and third-party studies show Reddit is its most-cited domain: 40.1% of LLM citations point to Reddit according to Semrush's 150K-citation study. Our own 1,000-run study also showed an engine WITHOUT Reddit access cited it exactly zero times: access to Reddit threads is the mechanism.
