People Also Ask (PAA) is the expandable box of related questions Google inserts into search results, each one opening a short answer pulled directly from a webpage.

Why it matters

PAA is a map of the exact follow-up questions your buyers ask, in their own words. Each question is a citable slot: win it and you own extra SERP real estate without ranking #1 for the head term. The same question-and-answer pattern also feeds AI systems, pages structured around PAA-style questions are easier for answer engines to quote, and they map cleanly onto how LLMs decompose a prompt via query fan-out. Reddit threads frequently occupy PAA slots too, because Google's 2024 content deal made Reddit one of its most surfaced sources, another reason a strong thread can outrank your own site.

How to use it

  • Mine PAA boxes for your core keywords and turn each question into an H2 with a direct 40-60 word answer immediately below it.
  • Answer first, elaborate second: Google lifts the snippet from the passage, not the whole page, so lead with the definition or the number.
  • Mark up question-heavy pages with FAQPage schema so both Google and AI crawlers parse the Q&A pairs cleanly.
