A SERP feature is any element on a search results page beyond the traditional blue link, featured snippets, People Also Ask boxes, AI Overviews, knowledge panels, video carousels, and "Discussions and forums" modules.
Why it matters
SERP features have pushed classic organic results further down the page, so ranking #1 no longer guarantees the click, a feature above you can absorb it and produce a zero-click search. For SaaS founders doing Reddit growth, the most important feature is the "Discussions and forums" module: since Google's 2024 deal with Reddit, threads routinely appear in this panel and in regular results for commercial queries, meaning a well-positioned Reddit thread can occupy SERP real estate your own domain can't. AI Overviews add another layer, citing sources directly at the top of the page.
How to use it
- For each target keyword, audit which features appear and decide which ones you can realistically win, snippet, PAA, discussion panel, or AI Overview citation.
- Structure content for extraction: direct answers under question headings, tables for comparisons, schema markup throughout.
- When the discussion panel dominates a query, invest in ranking the Reddit thread itself rather than fighting it with a blog post.
